Although they share images with the 1947 Bond Bread set as well as with other sets of the era, the cards were actually issued in sheets by a company called “Elgee” for use by various businesses as trade premiums. They are many times more difficult to find than the bread cards. The set was advertised as 46 cards. It is not clear how many different subjects were included; as stated on the advertising on some of the cards, the set consisted of “Sports-Hollywood-Cowboys”. According to various researchers, none of the short-printed Bond Bread ballplayers are in the set. Cards have been found imprinted with shoe store advertising, which appears to be rubber stamped. All of the cards here are as issued. The group offered here includes ten baseball players [of an ostensible 22 issued] and twelve cards with movie subjects. Ballplayers include Pee Wee Reese, crease, John Sain, Harry Breechen, Tommy Holmes, Bruce Edwards, Larry Jansen, Buddy Kerr, Sheldon Jones, Rex Barney, Willard Marshall. There are three advertising back cards. Among the movie stars are John Wayne, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Roy Rogers, Gregory Peck, Ginger Rogers and others. Most cards are crease free, perforation on edges, some have straight edges (end of sheet?)
