This lot features a great piece of Exhibit production history in the form of an eight card proof sheet. This sheet is printed on paper thin stock and was likely used to check the artwork and layout of the eight cards before being transfered to the thicker stock for production. Included in the margins are notations, presumably made by the printer as comments or suggestions for the next printing.
The eight subjects on this sheet are also among the more popular in the 1948 Exhibit Champions set. Three football players, including two Hall of Famers, are displayed with Pat Harder, Sid Luckman, and Bulldog Turner all on the top row. Filling out that row is tennis player Jack Kramer. The bottom row starts with figure skater Sonja Henie, famed racehorse Man O' War, noted billiards player Willie Hoppe, and another figure skater Barbara Ann Scott.
While the exact number of proof sheets in existence is unknown, they are undoubtedly much rarer than the individual exhibit cards and make a phenomenal companion piece to any collection. The sheet measures 18" x 14".
