This rare set was issued in a 9-card sheet as a prize at the arcade on Coney Island. Source images were ‘pirated’ from Exhibit cards, 19th century photos and publicity photos. Offered here is one of the few complete sets ever to come to auction. The set includes John L. Sullivan, Tommy Burns, Eugene Criqui, Mickey Walker, Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, George Courtney, Georges Carpentier and Charlie Mitchell. All except Courtney are members of the IBHOF. The Louis card was issued while he was still active and heavyweight champion, and is one of the few career-contemporary American issues of Louis. All cards present nice and are on a thin paper stock, they appear to be hand cut since they have uneven edges.
