This issue ran in a number of overlapping series from 1925 to approximately 1929-30. What appears to be the earliest version of these cards have black & white or light blue or purple (the latter two rare variations) tinted fronts with plain hand-printed lettering listing the boxer’s name, hometown, class and title (if any), and postcard backs containing the boxer’s 1924 record and biographical information printed in brown or black ink and derived from Ring Magazine via the Everlast Boxing Record Book. It is assumed that this first set was issued in 1925 because the card backs show the fighters’ records for calendar year 1924. The later versions of the cards feature the same front format using various colored stocks and print inks on the card fronts. A final variation with a different front font was issued around 1929 and is known as the Fancy Script series, with nine known subjects. The checklist of the issue is not yet complete but there are over 40 different known card fronts plus the nine Fancy Script cards. The lot offered here breaks down as follows:
