There are four Jack Dempsey cards in the 1925 Exhibit boxing set. Since Jack Dempsey was at the height of his movie career and his popularity in 1925, the company tried to cash in on his fame as best as it could. The ‘standard’ card depicts Jack in a full fighting pose facing the camera and is captioned with his name, title and home town in the manner of the typical 1925 card. The second card shows a more traditional image of the champ but in a horizontal format with the unusual caption “Typical fighting pose of Jack Dempsey, heavyweight champion of the world.” The third card shows the Manassa Mauler sitting on a stool in heavy movie make-up, with a facsimile autograph (the same card is known blank backed with a different caption). The fourth card, which is very rare, depicts Dempsey under his true name, William Harrison Dempsey, posed in a tuxedo from a movie publicity shoot. Only a handful of specimens are known, one of which is offered here. VG, dirty
