Sterling Sports Auctions #36
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/17/2014
As noted in the offering from the 1931 PC Back Exhibit Entertainment lot, the artwork from the Exhibit set was used to make a variety of strip and W cards. Whether the same company made the cards is unknown. What is definite is that there are at least four different strip card issues that utilize the same artwork, similar to the way the 1925-31 PC Back Exhibit baseball artwork was used for W517 and W517 mini cards. The most desirable and popular of the movie star strip cards is the large format set, which is almost the same size as a modern baseball card. As was the case with the Exhibit cards, the issue comes in a variety of colors. More subjects are known in the strip card issues than in the Exhibit issue, as is the case with the W517s. The lot offered here contains 54 cards, only two of which are exact duplicates (Bushman and Marsh). Other cards of the same subject are pose variations or color variations.
