A very difficult set issued around 1931-32 and best known for cards of Jim Thorpe, it is not known how many cards are in the issue. The set features black and white images against brightly colored backgrounds, with an occasional scarce variation featuring color images and contrasting color backgrounds. The same art was used to create at least four different sets of strip cards, some of which offered elsewhere in this auction. Although all cards from the set are not easy to acquire, certain color combinations are considered rare single prints [marked on the checklist as “SP”]. Range in grade from GD to EXMT, averaging VGEX. The lot offered here includes: Bob Custer fuschia/pink SP Jack Hoxie pink/fuschia SP El Brendel green Hoot Gibson green Ken Maynard w/puppies green John Boles green Lew Ayers green Yakima Canutt green Warner Baxter lemon yellow Wm. Haines lemon yellow Joe E. Brown orange Maurice Chevalier orange Tom Keene orange Bob Steele red George O'Brien red Chief Thunderbird red Tim McCoy, Robert Frazier red Buck Jones yellow Jack Holt yellow Ted Wells yellow
